Alexia Sampri is a PhD candidate in Health Informatics at the University of Manchester (sponsored by EPSRC). She holds a MSc in Big Data from the University of Stirling and a MEng in Environmental Engineering from the University of Thrace. She applies probabilistic approaches to integrate healthcare data. Her research interests revolve around statistical data integration, interpretable and explainable machine learning, environmental and health data analysis, information engineering, simulation studies, and data mining.
Alexia is also a trained youth worker who intends to get new insights and knowledge on how to tackle hate speech, bullying and discrimination with the use of non-formal and formal education methodologies. Her work explores the link between the Council of Europe’s standards and educational approaches in addressing hate speech. By participating in this COST Action, she expects to explore the theoretical and practical challenges addressed by the online context to the protection of human rights and help to the detection and monitoring of hate speech in social media and search engines.
