WG2 focuses on practical dimension of human rights online. We study how platforms challenge and protect human rights in practice. At the intersection of public law and private norms, our working group conducts comparative analyses of the best practices of online companies in addressing human rights conflicts online and combating illegal and harmful speech. We study norms just like algorithms, big platforms and small ones, social networks, messaging apps and online marketplaces. Whenever digital human rights are challenged, our working group seeks to understand the underlying political, social, economic and legal issues. We will elaborate a best practice document, an assessment model and develop guidelines for companies. With over 30 researchers from 20 different European countries, WG 2 will make an essential contribution to the Action and to our understanding of how best to respect, protect and implement human rights in digital constellations
